We established avastidesign
in 2005 with the goal of creating beautiful timber
furniture without making a negative environmental impact.
I am committed to promoting the use of salvaged and
recycled timber in place of virgin timber, and have spent
a considerable amount of time establishing a network of
contacts that I draw upon to source exquisite,
sustainably sourced timbers. This network has enabled us
to access a great number of species in quantities ranging
from several cubic metres to small off-cuts, and
originating from sources such as diseased and wind-fallen
trees and building demolition/ renovation.
avastidesign operates on a ‘reduce, renew and offset’
basis: energy consumption is reduced to a minimum through
efficiency measures; we have switched to renewable energy
through our energy provider; and finally, any remaining
emissions are carbon offset via tree planting for
long-term carbon sequestration and renewable energy
credits for an immediate impact.
We strive to provide a design process where the eventual
owner can form an emotional attachment to their piece of
furniture. This is made possible by involving the client
throughout the process, from the drawing board to visits
to the workshop with larger commissions.
I find nature and natural forms a great inspiration, and
enjoy the challenge of embodying this in my work. By
using traditional tools and construction methods, I
believe that the inherent beauty of timber shines
through, even in the most contemporary of works.
We hope that you enjoy looking through our portfolio, and
please feel free to contact us should you wish to discuss
a commission or to ask any questions. We look forward to
hearing from you.
